India became the third nation on Wednesday to report 1.5 lakh coronavirus disease fatalities (Covid-19). The world reported 264 new deaths in the last 24 hours in the latest update published by the Union Home Ministry, raising the death toll to 1,50,114.
The United States had the largest number of deaths – 3,65,620 – according to Worldometers, led by Brazil with 1,97,7777 deaths due to the disease.
Over the last few weeks in India, the number of deaths, along with the frequent caseload, has been slowly dropping. On Tuesday, the country reported 16,375 new Covid-19 incidents, the lowest in over six months.
For the 16th consecutive day on Wednesday, the active caseload remained below three lakhs. India’s active caseload stands at 2,27,546, according to an update from the Health Ministry.
On August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16, India’s Covid-19 tally surpassed the 20-lakh mark. On September 28, it went past 60 lakh, on October 11 it went past 70 lakh, on October 29 it passed 80 lakh, on November 20 it crossed 90 lakh, and on December 19 it breached the one-crore mark.
Meanwhile, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday, India’s Covid-19 caseload rose to 1,03,74,932 with 18,088 infections being registered in a day, while recoveries are approaching one crore.
The number of individuals surviving from the disease rose to 99,97,272, pushing the national survival rate to 96.36 percent, while the fatality rate for the Covid-19 event stood at 1.45 percent
For the 16th consecutive day, the Covid-19 active caseload remained below 3 lakh.
