Police have taken two people into custody in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old woman on the night of December 31 and January 1, during a New Year celebration party in the Khar district of Mumbai.

A psychology student at Jai Hind College was the deceased teenager, named as Janvi Kukreja. She was with her family until 12:15 am on January 1, celebrating her father’s birthday. Police said that prima facie, it seems the murder took place between second floor and ground floor of the building. The people residing on the second floor are the grandparents of the host. Police suspect that as they are old, they must not have heard screams.

Police investigations have shown that Janvi didn’t like the way he flirted with the other girls at the party. A fight flared up when she saw him and a girl getting close together. The girl was a neighbor of Janvi’s and was the one who brought her to the party. The building’s CCTV camera captured the friend with his torn shirt leaving the building.
