Due to excessive rain, heavy flooding was reported in several parts of Thirunelveli and Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu. In Nellai, Thoothuudi, Kanyakumari and Thenkasi, moderate to very heavy rain is forecast. On Tuesday, parts of Tamil Nadu received heavy rainfall that lasted until January 14.
As 29,000 cusecs of water were released from Manimuthar and Pabanasam dams due to heavy rains in the catchment areas, a flood warning was given to individuals living along the banks of Thamirabarani river.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) tweeted on Tuesday, ‘Very heavy rainfall was recorded at Atiramapattinam (13.5cm) of Tamil Nadu, Ariyalur (10 cm), Nagapattinam (8 cm) and Karaikal (6.3 cm) during 0830 hours IST from January 11 to 0530 hours IST from January 12,’
There will be no strong rainfall in Tamil Nadu from today onwards, as the present eastern wave will weaken.
