The extreme cold that has struck several areas of northern India is expected to persist over the next few days. The national capital reported a two-three degree decrease in temperatures and witnessed the mercury freezing at 3.6 degrees Celsius, according to recent updates by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Churu in Rajasthan saw a chilly -1.5 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD updates, followed by Amritsar, which reported 1.8 degrees Celsius. Sikar faced 3 degrees Celsius, followed by 3.5 degrees Celsius in Delhi and 3.6 degrees Celsius in Udaipur. A minimum temperature of -4.0 degrees was recorded at Mount Abu, the hill station in Rajasthan, while most of the major cities in the Kashmir Valley recorded sub-zero temperatures followed by snowfall.

Gulmarg reported the coldest day in the valley earlier this week, at -7.5 degrees Celsius. Over the next day or so, Shimla is forecast to hit minus 1 degree Celcius, the IMD said.
With Delhi smashing records over the past 50 years, a layer of dense fog engulfed most areas of the northern city.
