The new strain of Corona is found in India among some of the UK returned passengers. With this, the Governments’ concern about the New year celebration is obvious. For taking preventive measures, the Centre has asked the state Governments to modulate the New Year Celebration. As the new strain is more contagious and infectious, the Government suggested this precautionary measure to the States.

The states are asked to maintain the restriction on 30th Dec, 31st Dec and 1st of January, however, the final decision has been left to the states. A top official has written to the states, “Even the number of cases is declining, there is still a need for taking comprehensive precautions.” However, inter-state and intra-state transport and movement will not be restricted.
The Centre’s advisory on restriction comes after taking into account the country’s spike in cases during the last festive season.

The Centre issued the letter after 20 coronavirus patients carrying the UK strain of the virus has been detected across India. The new virus is believed to be 70 percent more infectious. The flights to and from the UK have been stopped till January 7, but the Centre has launched a project of tracing and testing international travelers who reached the country in the 14 days between December 9 and 22.
