The Narcotics Control Bureau on Monday, for the second time in a month, grilled model-turned actor, Arjun Rampal, in the ongoing investigation into the drug connection with Bollywood being investigated by the central agency, officials said.
Last week, Rampal, 47, was summoned, but he wrote to the NCB requesting time until 22 December, citing some 'family' obligations.
Earlier, on November 13, after the NCB raided his home and took away about a dozen electronic devices, he was questioned for almost 7 hours.
He had later told media people that he had turned over a medical prescription of an unique painkiller that the NCB had taken for prescription. In addition to Rampal, his South African girlfriend Gabriella Demetriades and her brother Agisialos Demetriades, who had been detained and later secured bail, were questioned by the NCB. As the drug investigation moved the needle to other foreign nationals' involvement, last month, another of Rampal's associates, Australian Paul Bartel, was arrested.
The NCB has arrested more than two dozen individuals, including film stars, drug dealers, funders, suppliers, etc., so far, unraveling the Bollywood-drug cartel links.
At one point during the investigation, some drug-peddlers in Goregaon assaulted an NCB team on November 23, and two NCB officials were suspended earlier in December pending a probe into suspected 'lapses' in their conduct.
Several other famous personalities in the film, such as Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor, Sara Ali,
In addition to some other industry professionals, Rakul Preet Singh, Bharti Singh, Harsh Limbachiya, were questioned, and last week, the NCB issued a summons to filmmaker Karan Johar.
After the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in Bandra, Mumbai, on June 14, the NCB launched a high-profile investigation into the Bollywood drug angle.
After parliament narrowly rejected a bill to delay a midnight deadline for approval of the country's budget, Israel's government appeared to be hours from collapse early Tuesday.
The Knesset immediately dissolves and a fourth election in two years will be called with the country in the middle of a coronavirus-related health and economic crisis if a budget package is not passed by that cutoff. Lawmakers defeated the bill by a vote of 49-47 to push off the deadline until Dec. 31.
The election date of March 16 was preliminarily accepted, but political observers said the vote would be more likely to take place on March 23.
After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu balked at honouring his coalition deal to approve an investment plan by 2021, the budget crisis exploded. A budget for this year alone will give him leeway to bring down the government over the investment plan for 2021, until Defense Minister Benny Gantz takes over as premier under their power-sharing next November.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded the Legion of Honor, one of the US's highest military honours, by U.S. President Donald Trump for "exceptionally meritorious service" as India's leader.
On Monday, the Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander, was assigned to Modi on behalf of Trump. The medal is seldom presented and can only be bestowed by the President of the United States. Generally, it is granted to heads of state or heads of government.
The award was won by India's ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, on behalf of the Prime Minister. The Legion of Merit Degree Chief Commander was also awarded at the same ceremony on Monday to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. On September 18, Trump had previously awarded the Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander, to Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti Amir. Before that, in 1991, the medal was last awarded.
The Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander, is a domed, heraldic-shaped, five-pointed American white star plaque bordered by purple-red enamel, with 13 white stars rising from a circle of clouds on a blue field. A laurel wreath with pierced, crossed arrows pointing outwards between each arm of the star and the wreath is behind the star. The reverse with the words "United States of America" is etched.
The Modi award citation claimed that it was awarded "for exceptionally meritorious service as the Prime Minister of the Republic of India between May 2014 and August 2020." The "steadfast leadership and vision of Modi has accelerated the emergence of India as a global power and raised the strategic partnership between the United States and India to tackle global challenges," it said.

Around 7.30 am Tuesday, vehicular movement on the DelhiMeerut Expressway absolutely stopped as farmers protesting against the three new farm laws blocked all their carriages at the Ghazipur-Ghaziabad (UP Gate) border for the past 27 days. The Delhi Traffic Police used its Twitter handle at 7.37 am to update the public on the closure of carriageways at the border between Ghazipur and Ghaziabad. Deputy Police Commissioner (East) Jasmeet Singh also reported the border blockade as a result of the protest.
The Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police were prompted by the sudden blockade of the expressway to redirect traffic to alternative borders, such as those at Anand Vihar, Bhopra and Apsara. Keeping in mind that the blockade may lead to traffic chaos during the morning office hours, Uttar Pradesh administration and Delhi police officials are negotiating with the protesting farmers the reopening of at least one carriageway.
Since they began their agitation last month, farmers protesting at the UP Gate border have occupied the expressway's carriageway and service roads going to Delhi from Ghaziabad.
This is the second time that the expressway has been completely blocked by the farmers since Monday afternoon, who say that many farmers from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been prevented from proceeding to the borders of Delhi and join the agitation.
The borders of Singhu and Tikri, where thousands of farmers protest, continue to remain closed while vehicles entering Delhi from Noida are open to one carriageway at the Chilla (Delhi-Noida link road) border. DND, Kalindi Kunj, New Ashok Nagar, Kondli, and Dallupura are being diverted to other borders by motorists heading to Noida.
