According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur, Odisha, on Saturday by video conferencing (PMO).
The announcement on Twitter was also made by the PM. Tomorrow, 2 January, at 11 AM, the foundation stone will be laid for the permanent campus of IIM-Sambalpur. In particular, my student friends and others in the field of start-ups should be encouraged to join the programme. India, he tweeted on Friday, is proud of the IIMs’ rich contributions to national development.

Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal and State Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will also be present on the occasion, along with Union Ministers Ramesh Pokhriyal’ Nishank, Dharmendra Pradhan and Pratap Chandra Sarangi.

There will be over 5,000 people taking part in the ceremony. “Over 5000 invitees, including officials, industry leaders, academics and students, alumni and faculty of IIM Sambalpur, will virtually attend the ceremony,” the statement said.

According to the PMO, IIM Sambalpur is the first IIM to introduce the concept of ‘flipped classrooms’. A flipped classroom is where, in digital form, fundamental concepts are taught and experiential learning takes place in the classroom through live industry ventures. With 49 percent of girls in the MBA (2019-21) class and batch, the institute has romped ahead of all other IIMs in terms of highest gender diversity.
