Amidst the clash that happened between the Trump supporters’ mob and armed forces at US Capitol Hill, the Indian Flag was noticed. The mob who were Trump supporters intended to stall the certification of the election results. The squawking mob was wearing ‘T-Shirts’ and hats with Trump signature and waving Trump 2020 Flags. Amid the chaos and in between those rioters, The Indian Tri-colour was noticed.
The Indian Flag has been seen at the US Capitol took its own narrative in the siege. The man who was waving the Indian Flag is Vincent Xavier. Now, Xavier spoke up on why he did the same. He says that his intention was to prove the US as a non-racist country. He said- “America is not Racist as it is portrayed to be and my intention was to show that the country embraces Diversity.” After the flag was seen in the rally, Indian political Icons, Shashi Tharoor and Varun Gandhi started criticizing it over their Twitter handle. Replying to both the Politician, Vincent made the statement. He also posted pictures of flags of other nations to show that the intention was to show the diversity and nothing else. In the bitter tweet that started with Mr. Tharoor criticizing the Tricolour being waved at, Varun Gandhi posted a photo of Congress leader snaped with Vincent. The photo was posted online by users.
Mr. Xavier said he had met with Mr. Tharoor in 2015 and had interviewed him over lunch in Washington. Vincent Xavier also said- “I met him twice after that in Indian American, Malayali events. Tharoor is a very good orator. I am always jealous of his English skills. I don’t know whether I would consider him a great leader. I would want him to take a bigger role and rescue the Congress party in the shape it is in today, instead of getting into such controversies.”
