The first arrest under the newly adopted Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Protection of Cattle Act, 2020, was made by the Karnataka Police on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the first arrest was made in the district of Chickmagalur. “The police said, “A cleaner has been arrested and the car and animals have been impounded.
The events took place at two separate locations within the borders of Sringeri police station. Approximately 35 cattle from Ranebennur in Davanagere district via Sringeri in Chikkamagaluru district were illegally transported to Mangaluru, police said.
Near the village of Kaimana, the second incident took place. “A group of unidentified persons attacked the driver of the vehicle transporting the animals. While the cleaner managed to flee the spot. The driver who was attacked by the miscreants is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. He has also been booked for illegal transport of animals,” the police said.
In his complaint at Sringeri station, the driver of the truck claimed that his truck had been intercepted by a group of people and he had been attacked.

The case was registered in the Chickmagalur area of Sringeri police station.

Under the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Protection of Cattle Act, 2020, two FIRs have been registered against the unlawful ferrying of animals.
