On Wednesday, four individuals in Delhi were found to have the latest UK strain of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). Both four were segregated in different rooms at Lok Nayak Hospital in a special ward.

None of them have displayed some Covid-19 signs and are still healthy, officials said.

A senior doctor from the hospital said, “The viral sequencing of eight individuals admitted to the hospital has been done; four were found to have the UK variant.”
So far, 35 persons have been admitted to the special ward of the hospital assigned to isolate patients afflicted with the new virus variant. Of all, 20 have returned from the United Kingdom and the remaining 15 are persons who have come in touch with them.

The 2,000-bed Lok Nayak Hospital was designated as the nodal isolation center for individuals suspected of having the new variant of the viral infection, including those who returned from the UK between November 25 and December 21 or those who are suspected of having the new variant of the viral infection

The Indian government halted flights from the United Kingdom on 23 December and checked those from the country two days prior to landing in India. In light of London and other areas of the United Kingdom going into a lockdown due to a fast-spreading mutated version of the Sars-CoV-2 virus, the action was introduced.
There are 23 mutations in the UK variant, one of which is on the receptor binding domain of the spike protein used by the virus to enter the human body. It is assumed that the current version is 70 percent more transmissible than the previous one. However, owing to the new variant, physicians and scientists have not seen a high number of individuals with significant ailments or fatalities.
