India continued its string of low single-day cases on Friday with 15,590 new coronavirus infections recorded in the last 24 hours, raising the total count to 1,05,27,683, according to the Union Health Ministry.
India had 12,584 new cases reported on Tuesday, the lowest single-day number in over seven months. From the latest cases, the nation has reported fewer than 20,000 daily new cases.
In the past 24 hours, 191 deaths have been confirmed, raising the death toll to 1,51,918, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. Less than 300 new deaths a day have been reported in the world over the last 21 days.
According to data from the Ministry, so far 1,01,62,738 people have recovered and there are actually 2,13,027 active incidents. The rate of regeneration is 96.52%, while the mortality rate is 96.52%.
The Indian Council of Medical Research said the total number of samples tested up to January 14 was 18,49,62,401, including 7,30,096 tested on Thursday.
Seven states—Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat—report about 76% of new cases on a regular basis.
Meanwhile, with the acceptance of two vaccines, the much anticipated mass vaccination campaign is slated to begin on Saturday.
In the first phase of the campaign, the Central government intended to vaccinate nearly three crore persons.
The Ministry of Health of the Union said that doses of 1.1 crore ‘Covishield’ and 55 lakh ‘Covaxin’ were procured at the rate of Rs 200 and Rs 206 per dosage, respectively.
