Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will arrive in Tamil Nadu on Saturday for a three-day visit (23-25 January) ahead of the April-May 2021 State Assembly polls.
The Congress leader is expected to kickstart the party’s campaign for the assembly polls during his visit. He will also communicate with farmers, MSME sector leaders,, trade unions, labourers, and weavers in the state, a party leader said.
“Farmers’ issue is a burning issue throughout the country and Congress has been at the forefront from the beginning. Rahulji has taken leadership on that issue. Across the country, Congress has done programmes and dharnas. He will be interacting with farmers and will address a farmers’ convention in Karur,” news agency ANI quoted party leader Dinesh Gundu Rao as saying.
“He (Gandhi) will be interacting with representatives of the MSME sector, trade unions, labourers, weavers. He’ll be having many interactions during the visit,” he added.
The former Congress president will also attend election meetings in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts along with visiting Erode for a party meeting.
Ahead of his visit to Tamil Nadu, Rahul Gandhi stated that the current Congress-Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance would continue to hold elections, stating that if actor-politician Kamal Haasan joined them, it would be a welcome change.
Last week, Kamal Haasan, who had already ruled out joining hands with the governing AIADMK or the DMK, completed his first round of political campaigning.
This will be the second visit this month by the former congressional president to the state. Earlier, on January 14, in the south of Tamil Nadu, Rahul Gandhi witnessed ” jallikattu,” a bull-taming sport, an event in Madurai.
