Several areas of Delhi experienced heavy rains and Wednesday morning hailstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said heavy rain and wind was likely to occur in Delhi-NCR in the next two to three hours.
“Hailstorm was witnessed on Wednesday around 7.30 am in several parts of the city,” an IMD update read.
Delhi and parts of NCR have been experiencing rain over the past three days because of the effects of a moving Western 2Disturbance. Scientists said this was the most intense Western disruption to have crossed the region in the last few months.
IMD recordings indicate that the Safdarjung observatory observed 4.7mm rainfall from 4 pm on Monday to 8.30 am on Tuesday, while 4mm and 4.8mm rainfall was reported at the Palam and Lodhi Road observatories respectively.
8mm of rainfall was reported at the Aya Nagar observatory until 8.30 am on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, light rain was also reported across the area, with 1.2mm rainfall recorded by the Safdarjung observatory, while 5.3mm rainfall was recorded at the Palam observatory.
