According to an official release, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved a plan for the acquisition of another 1,365 hectares of land in Jewar for the second phase of the upcoming Noida International Airport.

According to the statement, the cabinet also approved an expenditure of Rs 2,890 crore for land acquisition, as well as resettlement and rehabilitation of those who will be impacted by the greenfield project’s expansion.

The cabinet made the decision at a meeting on Tuesday evening in Lucknow.”The State Cabinet has today approved the plan to purchase another 1,365 hectares of land for the future expansion of Noida International Airport at Jewar,” S P Goyal, the additional chief secretary to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, tweeted on Tuesday.

According to officials, the first phase of construction of the Noida International Airport is currently underway in the Jewar region of Gautam Buddh Nagar district in western Uttar Pradesh.

The greenfield airport is being built in four phases and is expected to be the world’s largest when completed, with five or six runways spread over 5,000 hectares, according to officials.

Commercial operations from the airport are scheduled to begin by December 2023 or January 2024, according to the project’s first phase, which is being developed on over 1,300 hectares of land.

The airport is being built at a cost of Rs 29,560 crore by Swiss developer Zurich International Airport AG, they said.
