A one-month-old boy who was allegedly sold by his parent, a pavement dweller, for Rs 70,000, was rescued in Hyderabad and handed over to the child welfare department, police said.
After his mother filed a lawsuit about a week after his father sold the infant, the baby was traced to a couple. The pair were confronting the guy with the bid.
On Thursday, after inquiries focused on CCTV video, the baby was found.
The child’s parents live on the footpath and earn their living, the police said, taking up minor jobs or indulging in begging.
For some days, the couple had observed the poor family living on a footpath and had approached the man, offering the child Rs 70,000.
A case has been reported under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the baby was handed over to the child welfare department of the government, police said, adding further investigation was on.
