In Bihar’s Madhubani district, a 15-year-old deaf and mute girl was reportedly gangraped and her eyes were injured by a sharp object so that she could not recognise the perpetrators, police said on Wednesday.
Both her eyes were impaired, although it remains to be decided if she has lost her eyesight entirely, said the doctors attending the child, who is in a critical condition.
Superintendent of Police Satya Prakash said, adding all the accused come from the same village, that three people were arrested in connection with the incident that took place in Kauwaha Barhi village in Harlakhi police station area on Tuesday when she took her goats for grazing.
Village head Ram Ekbal Mandal said the girl had taken her goats to a field outside the village with her for grazing.
One of the kids told the family of the girl about the incident. In a barren field in neighboring Manoharpur village, they found her lying unconscious.
Harlakhi Police Station SHO Prem Lal Paswan said the girl was admitted to the nearby Umgaon Community Health Centre, where doctors referred her to Madhubani Sadar Hospital due to her critical condition.
