Indian social-media app Koo is witnessing a surge in popularity with over 3 Millions downloads in the past two days, after Twitter refused to follow a government order to block certain content on its platform.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has tweeted “I am on koo. Connect with me on this India micro- blogging platform for real- time, exciting and exclusive updates.” After that talks are going round about this app. Koo app is being seen as an alternative to Twitter.
Koo is a microblogging website just like Twitter where users can express their opinions. This app has been developed by Aprameya Radhakrishna, who is the CEO and co- founder. It has also won the Aatma Nirbhar App innovation challenge organized by the government of India last year.
The idea behind this app was to allow users to share theirs opinions in local languages. It is available in Hindi, English Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati and Marathi. It has a maximum word limit of 350.
Many Ministers and Celebrities have started singing up for this Indian social networking app. Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Railway Minister have became active on this app. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also encouraged Indian to use Koo app in one of his “Mann Ki Baat” radio talks.
